恐怖归恐怖，我们还是要正确认识这个所谓的“脑机接口”。顾名思义就是指有机生命的脑或神经系统，与任何处理或计算的设备比如简单电路到硅芯片之间建立双向信息交换。人类这项研究上已经超过五十年的历史，主要集中在听觉、视觉和肢体运动能力三大块。研究的主线还是在恢复人体损伤的功能，以及增强现有的功能。
研究发展典型的事件有如下几个：
20世纪70年代证实了猴可以在闭环的操作性条件作用后快速学会自由地控制初级运动皮层中单个神经元的放电频率；
20世纪80年代，找到了猕猴的上肢运动的方向和运动皮层中单个神经元放电模式的关系，以及一组分散的神经元也能够编码肢体运动。
20世纪90年代，已经能够使用神经集群记录技术实时捕捉运动皮层中的复杂神经信号，并用来控制外部设备。
2008年，匹兹堡大学神经生物学家宣称创造的脑机接口可以被猴子用来操纵机械手臂给自己喂食物。
2019年，SpaceX及特斯拉创始人成立的专门研究脑机接口的公司，宣布已经找到了高效实现脑机接口的方法。
